FIBark Youth Team

The FIBArk Youth Team, sponsored by the Arkansas River Trust, is a community based, youth whitewater kayaking program. The Youth Team introduces local young people to the sport of whitewater kayaking at little cost to the participant or their parents. The goal of the Youth Team program is to find local young people who might have a great interest in whitewater kayaking but otherwise may not have the opportunity to be exposed to the sport and the Arkansas River. Youth Team participants are brought through a learning progression with professional instructors in safe atmosphere that encourages each student to achieve their personal best.

The Youth Team program exposes local young people to the opportunities for personal growth and environmental education that can be found exploring their own backyard in a kayak. Each team member is required to take part in service projects within the community as a requirement of team membership. As team members progress through the Youth Team program they are offered professional development opportunities through local outfitters.

The FIBArk Youth Team is more than simply a summer recreation program. The Youth Team encourages local pride, environmental education, leadership development, and personal growth in local young people through the sport of whitewater kayaking.

Nature Resource Center

In 2003, the Chaffee Country Commissioners held an open house to discuss the concept of having a Natural Resource Center that will provide offices for various natural resource agencies of the Upper Arkansas Valley. To read more about this multi-agency approach to providing resource-oriented customer service, education, and interpretation in a one-top" shopping fashion, view the slideshow.

Bryan Dreher Memorial Rock

Memorial Rock for Bryan Dreher, a Salida kayaker and good friend who was lost this summer. The rock was placed along the Arkansas in downtown Salida. Thanks to everyone who contributed to keeping his memory alive on the banks of the river he loved.
